I have had my tank going for about two years. I have a 25 gallon tall aquarium. The filter is a Whisper filter and I do not think it is doing its job. I am wanting to buy an Emperor filter but do not know which one to get, a 280 or a 330. The lighting that I have right now is what came with the aquarium as a kit. What kind of lighting should I have?
Mr. Goldfish
First of all the 330 you were talking about sound like a Penguin which is made by the same company (Marineland). I would recomend the Emperor not because I have one , it is because many of the menbers on this site like it and recomend it.
Now about whisper, I just held a poll that asked which filter you liked the best and the results clearly stated that whisper scored the lowest. One thing to keep in mind is to multiply your tank gal. by ten (in your case 25*10=250 so that means your filter should have a flow rate of 250 gal. per hour ( gph). Now about the lid I'm not very choosy about lids. but don't get the cheapest because if it falls or break it can kill your fish and posibly shock you. Hope this helps! yeah.gif

Thank you so much for answering my questions. I went ahead and ordered the Emperor 280 at Big Als. I am going to go this weekend and check out new lighting. Right now I have flourescent bulbs and the plastic casing is cracked so I am going to get a whole new lighting unit. Again, thank you for your help and the nice welcome.

For the new hood, measure the inside lip of where it would
rest. This will help you when looking for a new one. If
your looking for a different bulb, I use Aqua-glo bulbs on
my tanks and like the look of them. You can get them at
Petco and Petsmart. Here's a link with product info about
the bulb:
