Help I bought a new sucking catfish yesterday 2 eat the algae from my tank... broblem is my telescope fantail thought it was food and the catfish went at him and sucked off a few scales... this was ok but my fish is slow and tried it again later and then was attacked n e thim he went near the catfish... now he had many damaged or missing scalles and is sitting round feeling sry 4 him self not looking so good...

I rang a lfs who told me that I need 2 buy algae discs for the catfish... do u think it will settle down? It is chasing the other 2 fish but they r faster and havent been caught

I am going 2 buy some metafix this arvo should I add it 2 the tank or separate the fish with missing scales and treat him in my aprox 2L hospital tank (dont worry in the small tank i do lots of water changes.

can ne one help?
Mr. Goldfish
First of all is it a common peleco? If it is return it because it has been known to suck the eyes of fancy goldfish. In the meantime get a tank divider so the catfish won't cause any more mischief. I not sure about algae disks, but in my opinoin it probauly won't help . You can go to the compatible section and ask what kind of catfish is compatible with goldfish. I have heard that bristle nose catfish is a good algae eater and it won't grow above 7 inches. Hope this helps!! yeah.gif

My thoughts are if it is a common Pleco it won't get better only worse as it grows.
Common plecos can get hostile and are not good with gf.
I would take the pleco back to the store and get a rubberlip pleco if they have one, or even a buseynose or bristlenose pleco. They will be ok and still eat the algae.

I put it in my house mates empty tank (his fish died and he seems 2 think i have no idea what i am talking about but i DO know y!) ne way...

It commited suicide!!!... must not have liked the new tank it wasnt cycled but i was desparate... it was a big strong fish well it jumped out a tiny hole in the lid... the corner where the airline comes in for the filter etc... it would have only just fit! N e way was found srivled on the floor... it was fine that arvo but dead that night...

It is also anoying that I bout $15.55 algae discs 4 the dump fish!!!!

I am glad it didnt take my telescoped eye out! It did have him pinned in the corner sucking off his scales!!!!

There r meds in ther now and he looks ok... although it seems on an unrelated note that his eves r squashing in his mouth????
