 rrrrgh...
Why...
Why won't the BLAMMED AMMONIA JUST STAY OUT OF MY TANK?!!

Daily routine for the last 3 days:
Step 1- Test for ammonia.
Step 2- Find ammonia.
Step 3- Immediately do a water change.
Step 4- filter out some of the fish dirt on the bottom.
Step 5- put in some fuzzy medication pill that works, for a day or so.

I'm scared of putting any more medication in the freaking tank, because too much is bad. But why won't the ammonia stop?! Just for a day or two?! I've been doing everything in my power for the last... four days now! Every day there's more and more ammonia in the tank. Anyone reccomend anything I can do that doesn't include:
1. Buying a huge syphon that will take up half the space in my closet.
2. Getting a huge new tank my mom won't let me get.
3. Getting rid of any of my fish.

P.S. Just so you won't bother me about this, the ammonia in my tank is usually between 0.25 and 0.50, which Mom says is too much.
Bella_Butterfly
Do you have a quarentine tank Kameira? I have a bubble eye and she has healing ammonia burns on pretty much all of her fins sad.gif
Kameira
Unfortunately, no. Thud.gif
Bella_Butterfly
Then you should probably consider one. Putting your fish into a nice, healthy, and fresh tank will help give them time to heal and you some time to correct the problem!

P.S. Hey! Yor a bubble-eye!!! rofl3.gif
blb
How big is your tank? How long has it been running? How many fish do you have in the tank?

If it is a new tank it takes a while for the good bacteria to get going. Plus if it is a new tank you shouldn't be touching the gravel or filter until it gets escablished.

Ok, let me rephrase 2. Getting a huge new tank my mom won't let me get.
2. Getting ANY new tank my mom won't let me get.

no.gif Oh no...well, have you explained to her why you really need one? If she dosen't listen then...get on your knees and beg her please please.gif ! LOL. But I would be more than happy to send you one of my tanks smile.gif I knew collecting tanks was a good idea. And my mom though I was crazy...
Kameira
I have, I've gotten on my knees, I've been nice, I said I would take COMPLETE responsibility for it, but NO, she escapes with the lame excuse, 'we have no space in your room'.

Raith
maybe if you change water daily?? it really works and if its high ammonia, buy a bowl. =p
Kameira
And so I change the water daily. Soon we shall see if it works. I shall report back tomorrow.
Goodnight, goodmorning, good afternoon, whereveryouare, goodbye.

I meant that Kameira lol.GIF
Kameira
Yeah, but Mom doesn't. cry3.gif
She said, no more tanks, end of discussion. And I asked her twice, she always ends with "There's no space in your room."
Bella_Butterfly
Oh wow... cry2.gif
Kameira
Let's see if I can make some space!
Why don't you come to chat, Bella, it'd make me less alone. cry3.gif lol.GIF

Could you tell us about your tank, filter and how to take care of it?

What's the "some fuzzy medication pill" that you putting in the tank?

Do you know your pH and water temperature?

Could you tell us about your tank, filter and how to take care of it?
Let's see... I have a 5 gallon (I know what you're thinking) tank with an Eclipse filter, I change the cartridge every four weeks. I usually change 25% of the water every week, sometimes every half a week.

What's the "some fuzzy medication pill" that you putting in the tank?
Oh... I just call it "fuzzy" because when you put it in the tank it fizzes up. It's called Ammonia Clear. And it works. For a while.

Do you know your pH and water temperature?
No.

And no one bite me about the answers, cause if the tank's too small, it's not my fault. Blame it on Mom for not letting me get a 10-gallon like I nicely asked for.

P.S. I'm starting to think it's the leftover food, because I had a nice long chat to my fish friend expert. B)
Well, I'm gonna go see what there is I can do about the food! Thank ye for your help, now.

Kameria it sounds like your tank isn't cycling properly.
Those tabs you are using "Ammonia Clear" are by Jungle labs and they remove ammonia. Therefore you are stunting the nitrogen cycle. You have to let ammonia into the tank for the next phase of the cycle to take place the nitrites. Now ammonia and nitrites are bad for the fish and we want them to be 0, but you have to have them in the beginging of the cycle.
What are the readings of the tank?
I would stop using the "fuzzies" and control the ammonia with water changes.

Also when you test the tank water test the tap water you are using as well. Post those numbers and we can help you get thru this.

I am going to move the thread to the water chemistry section.
Kameira
Aye! *runs off to do the stuff*
DataGuru
a turkey baster is good for removing uneaten food and poop.

I wouldn't change the filter media... that's where the bacteria live that convert ammonia to nitrAte. Just rinse it in discarded tank water.

So how many fish do you have in there?
