Mr. Goldfish
Hi guys I posted this question in Goldfish Disscusion Opps!

But it will get more posts here.

I got a Emperor 400 yesterday in the mail, and when I set it up it was quite noisy. It said in the manual that it takes 24 hours to break down, but the noise diffrence is still the same. Is it the same on all Emperor filters? If not how do I correct this problom?

When you say noisy can you describe it?
Is your water level up enough that the "waterfall" effect isn't too bad?

Did you help the filter get going by putting some water in the chambers?

Sorry alot of questions, but it helps to know all the info.

Mine is the quietest filter I have ever had, so I bet something is going on with yours and we just have to figure out what.

You know when you start a filter with out any water well it's not that noisiy, it's like a mechanical hum not so much as a noise but a hum. Now regarding you question the water level is fine. Even thouth I filled the tank as high as it goes it is still noisy.

P.S sorry about the poor grammer, this is driving me crazy krazy.gif krazy.gif krazy.gif

How many days has it been running?

Often when we go from one to another filter it takes us a little bit to get use to the new sound so it "sounds" louder than the other.

Hmmm a hum, It could be that it is new and all the parts are just needing to get "running" well. Let's see what others have to say.

rolleyes.gif I know exactly what you mean!!!!!! I've been there when I first set it up,and two other times when I was doing water changes & let the water drop to far. It took me for-ever to make it stop,& All I can tell you is that I kept taking the lid off and moving stuff/wiggling stuff until I got lucky & it finally stopped. It's a newer filter for me,& I'm sure theres some trick to it,but I always do everything the hard way! Good luck!!! Keep wiggling! lol.GIF

The impellar assembly may also be creating some noise; after a few weeks (and some good bacterial growth) the noise may decrease. I had an Emperor 280 that started out kind of noisy but quieted after a few weeks.

Thank you Melle,

Hopefuly my filter will quiet down!!
