My town uses Sodium hypochlorite to treat the water.

How do I dechlor my water for this, do I follow the instructions for chlorine or chlormine?

Thank you.

Oh my gosh... that's bleach.

all the reading I've done and I didn't put that together. *chuckle* Clorine bleach. sheesh.

Do am I reading this right?

Chlorine is hypochlorite.
so sodium hypochlorite just has added sodium.

Any water conditioner with sodium thiosulfate should work.

Ok great, so now I am drinking bleach (ok I'm not I drink bottled water) but my fish are swimming in it.

How will this affect them, I am just trying to figure out if I am adding enough dechlor to the water. Do I use the regular amount, or double it (such as for chloromine) so far I have been doubling it, unless I am aging the water.

I am not sure if I am adding too much, or not enough ohmy.gif/

DUH! I did not read your last sentence, my water conditioner is fine then =o) Thanks. I know some places use chlorine gas around here.

The thing is, before the water people started adding chlorine, LOTS of people were dying from bacteria in the water supply.

You can check out your city's annual water quality report or call them and find out what the average chlorine level is in your water. Most dechlorinators say how much chlorine they neutralize.
