I have 2 set up in my GF fry tank made by tetra-japan.It's called Tetra one touch filter especially made for smaller tanks.I haven't got any problem with it so far.I've heard that frys do not like splashy water current so I bought them.I change the filter once every three weeks and does 30% water change every four days and so far I haven't got any problem with my water quality smile.gif

I'll try to post a pic of mine.

I have looked at those tiny filters, too, at my lfs, and have wondered if they have enough area for bacteria to make much of a difference. Toothless, if you buy one you can do a controlled test for us :-)

Looks cool!

I haven't got space for a betta at the moment, but I already have a filter put aside for him. It's absolutely ancient- all it is is a little grren plastic box that you fill with whatever media you want, and it runs off an airpump. *sigh* I have the pump, the filter, the tank and even the gravel, now al I need is an occupant!

actually, i can do even better than that! I'll be stopping by the lfs on teusday and i'll test the water in it to see how its doing. biggrin.gif

To be quite honest with you, I am pretty confident that there is enough bio-filtration going on in that set-up. Here's a shot of the package deal with the light and "tank":

and if that tank is a bit too small, theres always this tank:

The set-up at the shop has a nice healthy bit of algae growing in it so, the lightng is obviously good enough to grow plants with (its a compact flourescent).

I'll let you guys know what the params were in their tank tuesday evening. wink.gif

Sorry if this seems like i'm a salesman for Red Sea. It's just that i was impressed to see advancements in good betta keeping trickling down to manufacturers. I really like this idea! lol.GIF

If the tank is planted with live plants, they will go a long way to keep water quality in check, too biggrin.gif

I like the look of set up #1, although around here with four cats, a lid on any tank is a necessity, and not just for jumping fish biggrin.gif. I will have to look at some of the larger fish stores around here and see if they have anything like that up and running.

Paul,

The only thing I worry about in those tanks is the small volume of water which is actually in them. (At least the ones near me for sale in my lps are only 1/2 to 1gal tanks & I would imagine there is quite alot of displacement)

I was very interested in these but was discouraged from the lack of a lid (& with 2 nosey cats...well...)

but they do look cool!

Well, the verdict is in. Not a spec of ammonia or nitrItes to speak of! and surprisingly, the nitrates were low so somebody is doing the little guy some good deeds! biggrin.gif

Just from what I've seen so far, this little filter would be perfect for a 1 gallon tank!

Paul, have the water parameters changed?

How did it cycle in 2 or 3 days? (Did you seed the filter?)

Do you think it has enough power for 2.5 gallons? The filter advert says "up to 3 gallons." If my experiment with adding biomedia to a Whisper Micro fails, I'll be looking for a new filter.

Thanks,
