I was wondering if it is possible to have too many plants in a tank? I have a 30 gallon tank and I have ended up with about 15 bunches of Anacharis... Please advise....

thanks!

is this a goldfish tank? As long as there is still room for the fish to swim and a air pump is available for when respiration takes place at night to allow sufficient oxygen levels. If plants are kept trimmed to still slow light to strike the bottom of the tank and still allow shade in some areas that would be very good.
hope i helped.

yes... it is a goldfish tank. i currently have two "hang on the back" filters, two powerheads, and a bubble wall so there is plenty of air in the tank.

thanks so much for the advice.

cut the tips of the plants and plant them it should grow tiny plants for the goldfish to nibble or eat

So what's your pH and KH?
How are you goldies acting?
There's a thread here where the plants weren't getting enough CO2 and started using carbonates for their carbon source. That caused pH to get too high.

my ph is neutral... at the risk of sounding stupid, what is kh?

KH is the buffering capacity of your water--carbonate hardness. Acids are produced by the biofilter and the KH keeps pH from dropping (getting more acidic).
I'd bet you're getting somewhat of a pH swing cuz of changes in CO2 levels.. Carbon dioxide is an acid. during the day plants consume CO2 so by the time you turn off the lights, pH will be highest. during the night, plants produce CO2, so first thing in the morning before you turn on the lights, pH will be the lowest. Might be worth checking pH first thing in the morning and last thing at nite to see how much of a pH swing you're getting.
