Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank
Steven
Hi I read few posts about the bamboo plants my questions are:

1-When it got roots growing do I have to cut them off? Or is it safe to stay in the aquarium with it roots?

2-Does the plant grow longer than the size you bought it or it will stay the same length but have more leaves.

3-If I do cut the roots can I pit them in anther jar of water would they grow back?

Thanks

Hi

1. Keep the roots, they do nothing to harm the tank, IMO they help it!!! My nitrates dropped dramatically and my tank has been non stop clear after my lucky bamboo lol

2. Doesn't grow longer, just creates more leaves. The leaves however keep getting larger.

3. Yes they will grow back, I have done that in my 10 gallon. I split the bamboo in two and submerged both parts 100%. They are growing very healthy and show no sign of illness biggrin.gif

The growing tip of lucky bamboo has been cut off. When plants get their growing tip cut off or pinched back they divert energy to growing horizontally and mostly into leaf growth.Plants that get the growing tip pinched off also tend to become much leafier and bushier than if their growing tip was still intact. This technique is quite useful when trying to keep plants compact and/or short as well as having various other purposes.

Yes, bamboo grows really slowly, just be patient.
