I have set up another 10 gal tank, for temporary and hospital uses. but I figured I should make it look nice like my others. So i decided to put real plants in there. I have done some more reasearch on it found some good GF-safe plants that are pretty hardy. (thanx to koko) but i bought a 25 dollar bag of flourite substrate and it is so messy! it is a 15 lb bag and it took me 2 hours to only wash half of it. but now that it is in my tank, it took a while to settle and clear up,but it creates more and more dust everytime it is touched and im kinda worried that if i plant the plant it will mess up the tank and get cloudy again. Will it hurt the GF?Any tips? I just dont want to have to throw away the substrate, it would be such a waste! :listen: :listen: :listen: :listen: :listen:

please help! thanx

Gotho, I use the fluorite substrate myself, and although it is indeed very messy, it is perfectly safe for fish.
Very bright me even dumped it into my 55 gl tank without washing it off (I don't know what I was thinking, I know better rolleyes.gif). I added some filter floss into the filter, let the whole thing run for a day, and all was clear. Although the filter floss was extremely dirty!
Now, when I add a plant to it or clean the gravel every now and then, it does get disturbed a bit and clouds a few inches off of the water, but it settles down pretty fast, within 20 minutes or so....smile.gif

smile.gif Yes it's very safe for fish, and the plants love it. Its actually a rather good
substrate and the plants love it.Im planing on setting a tank up with a flourite substrate.
Since the plants seem to grow so well in it.

Anyways goodluck with the plants!
