Richard Holyoak
Hello

I want to thank every one for the help with my goldfish and Koi. I made gell food they all love it and I am learning a lot of details about care.

My tank numbers are
Ammonia .2 to .4 hard to read the difference
Nitrate 5
nitrite .1
KH 80 GH 200
Ph 8.8
Temp 68 - 70

How do I get the Ph down I do changes but I think the water here is alkaline?

Thanks
Richard

Your pH shouldn't be that high with your KH being only 80ppm.
Could you check with the water company and see what they're adding to make it more alkaline? soda ash or sodium hydroxide are common ways they raise pH.

Ammonia is a lot more toxic with pH that high. Do you have any amquel or other ammonia binders? What test kit are you using for ammonia?

Could you check the pH and KH in your tap water?

Rourke has the best info I've seen on lowering pH. You'll have to register to get to his site.

I have no experience with lowering pH, but from what I've read, lowering pH is harder than raising it, cuz pH tends to bounce back.
