Hello everyone.
I have an 80 gallon tank with three medium sized ryukin, and three other fancies. The ryukin, one female and two males, are ready to spawn and are all showing tubercles. The female's belly has swollen very large and I can actually see the skin showing between the scales around the rear/vent area. The males chase her once in a great while, maybe for ten or fifteen seconds.
The female seems to have a lot of clear, stringy waste. I read somewhere that this was indicative of the female being eggbound.
Can anyone give advice about this? Should I leave be or should I try and intervene?
ALSO - I've read that a drop in temperature, followed by a slow return to the original warm temperature can help to induce spawning. Is the only way to lower the temperature of a tank to install a chiller? Anyway have any advice?
Thanks in advance!
