I have finally set-up my new 46 gal. aquarium and I have bought a Whisper 30-60 HOB filter for it. The motor seems to be kind of noisy to me. I have a Whisper 20-40 that I'm using on a tub and I cannot hear the motor at all, it's silent. I also have a Regent HOB on my 10 gal. tank and it is completely silent. Do you think it's noisier because it's a bigger filter? I'm wondering if I should maybe take it back to nnnnnn. Does that noise bother the fish?

Is it a rattling noise Hun. If so make sure the intake hose is set in there right.

Thanks Koko. No it's not a rattling noise. It's a hum, but a very loud hum. My other filters do not hum like that. I took it back today and got another just like it but it hums very loudly as well so I guess they are just noisey.

It's weird but the hum went away. It's very quiet now.

It's probably the filter vibrating againts the tank glass. If it happens again, try putting a piece of tissue paper folded in 5 halves against the filter and the glass.

Well that was the first thing I thought and I did put some foam material between the glass and the power filter which didn't help. It was definately a hum. But anyway it's gone now and very quiet. So I'm happy now

Thanks.

It's possible it was the impeller getting it's slime coat
and being 'broken in.'

Thanks pm94. I bet your right, I never thought of that. I feel silly because It was a brand new filter and I took it back to nnnnnn for a new one because of that loud hum. The new one was even louder for a while but now I can't even hear it.
Thanks again. Next time I'll know.
