I am new to having goldfish, i currently have a little ryukin (1.5 inches) in my 10 g tank and i have been dying to get him a friend. I have beem able keep myself from getting him a friend because of the 10 g rule, and avoiding pet stores. But i got the idea the other day to look in the classifieds for a bigger tank since i don't have enough money to get a new one. The only one i found was a 55 g for like 200 bucks, (too big for me and too much $$) but after thinking to try the internet classifieds i found a 35 g with stand and light for only 40 bucks! I am so happy i am going out to look at it saturday morning. I hope it looks good. Anywhoo i just though i would post here to give people an idea of where to look for cheap aquariums, and i had to tell somone...my friends think im silly for doing this stuff for a goldfish. ("why dont you just get a bowl...they are like five bucks")

I know i will have to cycle this one, but i was wondering if i could use gravel from my already cycled 10 g to do this. any advice would be great. Also i will need a new filter since mine is only up to 15 g...i have a melinnium 1000 wet-dry filter (with biofiltering action) right now, but i dont really know what that means, the LFS helped me pick it out. Info on the filter would be appriciated too. thanks muchly. you guys are great and helped me become wayyy more educated than i was on goldfish before i actually bought one.

woah that was longer that i meant it to be... smile.gif oops.

im happy biggrin.gif

Congrats!! Its always nice getting a good deal. Ive found that another great place to ask around or post want ad5 is at pet stores. The guys I work with are constantly selling tanks and buying bigger things. Also our store takes in used tanks and sells them at good prices. smile.gif

B) If you have gotten a used tank make shure you clean it out really good to prevent your fishies from getting sick.
