Gues what ...........................I GOT A APPLE SNAIL my brothers friend went to get me a fish i said no because i was overcrowded,but she went to get it anyway so i came with her and my brother to buy it, but i asked if i can buy some fish stuff instead, when i went to the fish section i saw apple snails they said the would have them in march but they got a bunch of them last week.I am soo happy its a golden apple snail, i dont know if a male or female .I will get a pic later

Please can you give some advice on how to look after apple snails.

YAY!!!!! Congratulations Leo!! I'm really happy for you

The 4 main points for snail care is

1. Keeping the ph 7.5 - 8 so that the shell doesnt erode

2. Feeding snails a high calcium diet and vegies. I feed my snails turtle pellets which are high in calcium until I get the chance to make some snail food

3. Keeping the water qaulity good as snails are very messy. I have to siphon and do a water change every second day as they poo everywhere

4. I keep the tempreture of my snail tank between 18c-24c, and they seem to be happy

I'm sure other people here will give you lots of good advice to add, but these are just the basics.

OH.....I forgot to give a name suggestion...hmmmm <_< I'm not good with names, but here are the names of my apple snails that might stimulate ideas for you:

My Biggest snail - Hubba
My Second biggest snail - Bubba
My Third biggest snail - Judas
My baby one I bought the other day - Squirt

I always thought "Peek a Boo" would be a good name for a snail, because the go in and out of their shell

Awwww!!! He is a nice size Leo If you feed him well he's going to grow. Mine were about that size when I got them, now they are much bigger
