just to clarify things these two do not in any way mess up the BioBugs in the tank guys. the only way would be to dump the whole jar in the tank.....Its a safe food for bacterial infections......

Absolutely true. And both are also excellent meds. 
The advantage of using MetroMed or Medigold is that not only do the antibiotics get right inside the fish to work on the infection (which water-based antibiotic treatments don't do so well) but also you can use tank treatments like salt or Prazi-Pro at the same time. This is very useful if you have to deal with more than one disease at once.
