I will try to make this consise. Got a goldfish almost a year ago for my son, it lived in a 2 gallon bowl, with filter. ( It was a 12 cent fish). My tropical tank fish all died after I brought home two mollies. Cleaned the tank, and then gave the goldfish the tank. It now has this slime all over, mucousy, peels off in sheets. Diagnosed it with Slime Disease per websites/books. has had malachite green for two doses, and some added aqarium salt. The tank is a 10 gallon, 20gallon filter (overhead filter), has 10inch bubbler. PH is about 7.2. No other info to give. Really did not care about this fish, but it has lasted longer than any other. It is about 3 inches long and now I want to save the little sucker!! Any advice?? Much appreciated.

can you describe this slime? also, how long has the fish been in the tank?
is the slime white-ish? any other discoloration on the fish? any other strange behavior? does he have any red streaks in his tail or fins?

The fish has a white-ish slime. It is just kinda sitting near the bottom of the tank. It has been in the tank for about a week now. I noticed the slime after about 2 days in the tank. I was wondering if it was like a fungus becuase some are described as "cotten like" . It is sort of like that. It looks fuzzy, and like it is covered in a big lougie. I don't know how else to describe it. I see no red streaking or different coloration. Its tail fin is becoming frayed and thin.

If the tank has only been reset up, for a week or so, it's probably poor water quality contributing to this. The tank would have to recycle itself after a good hard cleaning.
I would take a water sample to the local petstore and have them test the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels if you cannot buy the test kits.
I would also do a daily water change right now, until you know for sure that the tank has actually cycled.
Meds probably won't do such a good job on curing your problem, if your water parameters are off.
Good luck, I hope he's feeling better very soon! =O)
