My big male oranda has an odd little red bump/lump on his chin, what chin he has. smile.gif It wasn't there this morning and when I got home from work tonight, there it was!! Any ideas? It's a tiny red...thing...that hangs. I'm very worried.

I would just keep an eye on it for a day or two and see if it disappears, or grows. It could just be a little abrasion from rubbing on a tank ornament.

Is your fish showing any other signs of illness?
MonknSharona
Well, he's in the tank that had the amazingly weird ammonia spike which I am doing partial water changes every other day for. I posted here about the issue and got a lot of help with that. It's just that I've never had any fish get this kind of bump thing during an ammonia issue (cycling, etc.) Otherwise, he seems to be OK so far. I do worry about him; his wen has grown over one of his eyes so he cannot see out of it and I was wondering if this lump might be part of the wen growing; but it just looks too weird...and bright red.

I will continue to watch it and see what happens. I may be getting his wen trimmed sometime soon...would it be bad to take the lump off if it's not going away? I have the resources to even send the sample to a histopathology lab to find out what it is....if it should be taken off.

Thanks.

Hi,
It is just my opinion, but if you were to get the wen trimmed, then I wouldn't think it would be harmful to get the spot removed, too. Who would be doing the wen trimming? Maybe they would have some ideas about it.

I had a lionhead which developed a strange spot after an ammonia spike. However, it wasn't really a tag, just a spot. I have attached a picture of it. It took about 1 week to disappear.

The wen trimming would be done by a friend of ours who is a small animal vet.

The spot is kind of like a tag..sort of like a blister. It hasn't changed in size and still looks the same. I will give it some time to watch for spreading, etc. I was wondering if it might have something to do with the ammonia but i've never seen this happen before. He doesn't have any ornaments in his tank, only silk plants and gravel. It's in such an odd spot; right under his cheek under his chin.
Thanks!

Please keep me posted about this. I am interested to know what happens with it. I hope it disappears on its own.

Do you think he could be resting on his chin when he sleeps?
MonknSharona
Her certainly could be resting that way. He doesn't see well and ends up just sitting down wherever he lands. If he would sit still enough, I'd take a picture of it, but of course, he won't. biggrin.gif

thanks again for your help and concern. I will definately keep you posted.
