Thanks for the pictures! Your tank looks great.
I'm trying to cut down on my algae. If I can get it under control, I'll try live plants in my tank again. You, and others like you, are an inspiration.
Keep posting pictures periodically... it gives folks like me hope to see others succeeding. If you can do it, I should be able to do it too.

Sure. The one thats the close up and I have three of them in the tank is Whisteria a very easy to take care of plant and grows very fast.
The one on the right of the tank is a Moneywort plant. Then I have right in the middle is a Red Sward plant. On the log Java Moss and two Anubis plants.....

Koko the tank looks great. You don't know how lucky you are too have fish that don't mow down the plants. One question, How many wpg's are you using?

This tank is using a Coralife compact light hood.
Its about 130 Watt system......So that comes out to 3 watts per gal.
Im very lucky but I do have one in there that likes to nibble at the plants but the plants grow so fast that it doesnt hurt them,

Hi Koko,
Your planted tank looks great. I want to take out my plastic plants and get real ones. I have a 20 gal. high tank. Is it hard to keep real plants?

Not hard just knowing your water quality, lighting and the right plants with the right water

I use Florish Excell and Iron fertilizer

Koko your tank is absolutely gorgeous and Im so envious!

Meeko was just looking over my shoulder and drooling just now. He would love to get in there! What do you do to keep algae down? Do you have otos? Or is that where the bristlenose is? Either way it looks spotless. I want to try and get my tank like that. Im hoping to eventually be able to put more lighting on the 100 and try my luck at some plants. Meeko just makes things hard though. He even likes eating Java fern. Go figure.

Keep us posted!

I have the Rubernose in that tank:)
Thank you Js. I have been working hard on that tank. The number of plants in there are just right now with the nitrate levels. I only have to change the water once a week now and the nitrates are down to 10ppms

In this tank is the Rubernose, Dojo, Domino, Junbi and sweet tooth......

Koko your tank is a beautiful underwater oasis! I would love to one day grow 100% aquatic plants and dispense with the silk lookalikes, but my confidence is low.
I was lucky to get some Waterstar from Hidr so I'm giving it a shot. One week and it's still alive and unmunched. If, in a few months, it still looks good I might try the Wisteria that you mentioned as well, the lacy leaves are really pretty.
How do you clean the gravel without disturbing the roots?
koko
Oct 15 2003, 07:04 PM
I do a top coat siphon and then once a week a do a Spot check on the gravel

Its taken me a while to figure out the Logic on raising plants but Im more than willing to help others that really want to grow them

I will try to mimic your gravel cleaning technique, I planted the waterstar all around the tank, then I realized that cleaning the gravel was going to be a lot harder. Silk plants don't mind being uprooted!
Real plants look so much better, I love how they flutter with the current or when a fish swims past.
