I know I shouldnt really open a new topic, but I cant get any clues by others..

HOW MUCH shall I feed my goldfish?
They are babies. About 2-3'' ....

I mainly give them flakes. Some fresh bloodworms too.im gonna try some veggies soon.

But HOW MUCH shall i feed them ?
I give them three 0.5'' flakes for each fish once a day. But they eat them in 5 seconds and they still look hungry!

I've been feeding my guys only as much as they can eat in 1 min. 3X a day, and twice a month or so, I drop in either a slice of orange, banana, or romaine lettuce and shredded spinach. These I leave in for about an hour, to give them a chance to "graze".

I think the more frequent feedings are a little more natural for the fish, and they seem to stay bright and interested.

For a real hoot, try teaching your fish to hand feed! It's so much fun!

You should only feed them twice a day max, unless u r feeding them *really* small amounts. Dont over feed them, as it can be just as dangerous as over feeding them.
good luck!

Goldies don't have much of a stomach, Their digestive tract is like a long tube... so more frequent, smaller meals work best. Feed too much and lots of poop comes out the back end only partially digested. Some people say to feed an amount as big as their eyeball... that should be around a stomach full of food.

Here are a couple of pics from when I necropsied one of my little goldies who didn't make it. Be forewarned, they're graphic, but they'll give you a better idea what the digestive tract looks like. (1, 2). That clearish sack is the swim bladder. The brown squiggly tube near the bottom is the GI tract.

It'd be good to broaden their diet. A good sinking pellet combined with fresh veggies, etc. Flakes make my guys have floaty poop and they actually flip my big moor.
