Ok so i'm going to China in january (first time overseas ever!) and anyways we're going for 32 days in total and i have organised for a friend to come and do my water change each week, but what about feeding. I know goldies can go for a week without feeding, but for 4 consecutive weeks? Also it'll be around 40-45 degrees here (tank water will be around 37-43) so they'll be very active with a raging metabolism. Should i risk getting an automatic feeder (of course i would use it before i go away to make sure it wasn't going to feed them all the food at once..) for that time? My friend should be able to check it n stuff....
I'm just a little weary of the auto feeders....

Someone with more experience may have a better suggestion.. but having just traveled myself... I didn't trust them. Too many horror stories. Have your friend check on them a few times a week (or less). Personnally, I think that'd do it over those feeder things... Have a great trip!!

I've used a feeder before w/ success. Make sure it's not set up directly above filter output, a bubbler, or anything else that could cause splashing.
I'd be particularly inclined to try it since your friend can check on things.

The vacation feeders really foul things up. I heard somewhere that they are made of plaster and tubifex worms, and the dissolved plaster wreaks havoc on your pH. An auto feeder is way safer, IMO...
