1) Do females lay eggs even if there isn't a male present?
2) Can breeding stars ever be on other places of the head?
3) Do breeding stars come and go- or are they permanent once they're there?
4) If a female goldfish just got done laying eggs- is is normal for her to chill out at the bottom of the tank a lot?
5) Is is normal for a goldfish that just layed eggs to "shiver" now and then (almost like she's cold)?

Thanks to whomever can answer all of my questions- and could you also please leave me your personal cell phone number so that I may reach you at any time of the day or night when I think up some more questions?!?

I'd also like to know whether it's normal for breeding tubercles to come and go.

Last Friday, my two year old Ryukin showed no signs of tubercles. Then on Saturday, he had a bunch of breeding tubercles on both gill covers and along the front edges of both of his pectoral fins. On Sunday the tubercles were much less noticeable. On Monday, the fish no longer had any of the breeding tubercles.

During this time, there was no evidence of spawning activity in the tank... Although the Ryukin was acting like finding a girl friend was very high on his list of priorities. He chased the other two fish around the tank all weekend long.

It'll come and go most likely since this trait is due to hormones which tells the goldie to "do it" so it can't tell em to "do it all night long"-happy gilmore

At least I known why my ryukin had breading tubercles... I noticed my blank moor looked a little skinny today, and while cleaning their tank I found goldfish eggs stuck to most of the plastic plants. Oh well... I guess Bob is Bobby
