Ok.. so I buy a new weather loach and a week later every fish in my tank has Ick. I'm not happy... but know it's a risk when buying from fish stores. Anyway I'm treating with Meradyl. Anyone ever used that and is it effective.

Gawd.. no wonder they have all been acting weird over the past couple days. Hanging out near the bottom of the tank and fins clamped. Poor buggers.

Paul, It does have malachite green. In fact my tank looks like an exotic green/aqua tank. haha.

Anyway, looks like the "white spots" are dissappearing fast. One question though...

Does fin tearing and ick go hand in hand? All my large orandas now have tears in their fins and tails. One of their tail fins split right up the center too.

I have 2 more treatments to go with the ICK. Should I use MELAFIX too?

yep. ich is notorious (sp?) for causing finrot. also. keep a close eye on the parameters. most ich meds can cause the bio-filter to stumble a bit. this can compound the ichs tendencies to cause fin shredding. not to worry though, thost splits and tears should mend themselves nicely.

as for the melafix, i wouldnt worry about using it right now. malachite green is pretty good at keeping fungus and bacteria at bay while killing off the ich. once the treatment is over and the ich is gone, you can use melafix if you feel itll help. in my opinion, it cant hurt.

keep us posted, okay?

Don't forget to keep the tank covered (light deactivates Malachite green)

I hope your babies get better soon!!!
