What is the best way to go about doing this? I have had a fluke infestation that I have been treating on and off for at least 2 months now. My cycle is pretty much completely crashed so I'm not worried about that. I'm thinking about stripping everything down and cleaning and starting over. Do you think this is a good idea? What products should I use to clean? What are the chances that any flukes could survive?

Also I would be putting my goldie in my 10G QT tank for the amount of time needed to clean everything and get it set back up with water. So maybe 1 day or so he'll be there. What are the chances that he will take any flukes with him to the QT tank? I have a 1" chocolate pearlscale in my QT tank now who is doing very well. He's been in there about a month and I have wanted to move him over, but I didn't want to risk infesting him. But if I move my other fish to the QT tank even for such a short period of time he may be exposed anyway. sad.gif

I have been treating the infested tank with Jungle Labs Parasite Clear which contains Prazi. (It's pretty cheap...$2..., and don't really have the $$ to order Prazi from internet.) Anyway, after the first round of treatment everything seemed to go pretty good, no signs of flukes until about 2-3 weeks later. Then he started flashing again. So I began another round of treatments which I will finish up this weekend. I just need some advice on what is the best way to handle this situation. Any experts or anyone with advice out there please help sad.gif

Okay, I'll deal with cleaning the tank first. The most effective way to nuke a tank is to use household bleach. A couple of tablespoons in a bucket of water. Wash everything thoroughly. Rinse, rinse and rinse again until you can't smell the bleach anymore. I usually suggest that you let it air dry and stand for 7-10 days but I don't know if you have that luxury in time?

Flukes are hard to treat and complete eradication is harder still.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to try to tackle this project sometime this weekend. I may be able to leave both my fish in my 10G for a few days if I add an airstone or 2. The filtration in it is not the best.

Flukes suck

Yeah, fluke suck alright. smile.gif

Just to add a few finer points. Where the bits and piece (like parts from the filter) is too hard to clean thoroughly, soak them in a stronger bleach solution for at least 10min. Stir from time to time to make sure there are no air pockets. That should kill just about anything.

Rinse everything (including the tank) with dechlor water.

If you want to recycle the gravel, rinse first and then boil them in a pot of water for at least 10 mins. Otherwise, just dump them and get a new batch. smile.gif
