After reading about using baby food for gel food, I got really excited about making some. I have been reading alot of the posts here but i don't see HOW you put it in the tank. In squares? Crumble it up? How much? unsure.gif

After it gels, cut it into bite sized cubes and drop it in the tank. Keep maybe a week's worth in the fridge, but freeze the rest. I'd give each fish a couple of mouthfulls.

Thanks. I hope I can manage to let each fishie get a bite! One of them gets pretty
pushy! I'll probably make it this weekend. rolleyes.gif

When I make the fish food, I stick it in the freezer to let it chill, and then pull it back out, and cut scores in it w/the dull edge of a knife. This way, it's easy to break off the pieces later [it stays in the freezer, except for that week's food, which is in the fridge.]

As one of my fish is a swimming pig, I can't just drop the squares in -- he'd choke trying to eat it all at once, I know the way his brain works. So I take what is basically a custard cup [clear glass], and dip it into the tank, to get some water. I then drop the piece of gel food into the custard cup, and use a fork to mash it up into small pieces.
This way, I can control how much goes into the water at once, where, etc. Also, with lots of small pieces, they both have equal shots at the food, and there are inevitably some pieces at the bottom they can root at and get. And, as we all know, goldfish love to root for food!

Hope that helps...

I drop mine in frozen - it thaws quick and they can eat it as it does.
