One of my neon tetra has become quite discoloured, gone a bit pale & milky. You can't see the neon stripe anymore it's a light powder blue and the red colour has faded also... all my others are fine and normal colour.
Any ideas what this could be???

my widow tetras do this now and again, but i dont know how long yours has been doing it loz. maybe it has a disease as diseased fish can go pale before they die. hope its only temporary loz, fingers crossed.

cheers sandy... i noticed it this weekend (but thinking back he has always been slightly paler than the others..?)
His littel fins move much quicker that the other neons too.. even when still. like you say *fingers crossed* and i'll keep an eye on him.

Hi Loz,
What other fish do you have in your Aquarium? Sometimes if there is a fish in there more dominent then he or is getting picked on a lot he will get pale from stress... maby you could watch the activity to see if he is getting bullied.. i have had fish do this andi susually the cause.
RAZ
Ooops i just seen your list in you sig... lol
Maby the loach is picking on him at night.... Loaches like to play but are taken as dominet Actions

ooh loz he is almost see through isnt he. dont know whats wrong to be honest as all your other fish are fine. is there any other marks or behaviour thats out of the ordinary? as the pics are small its hard to really get a good look. when you get your camera up and running try and get a close up.
he hasnt got popeye has he, his eye looks kinda sticky out, or its that the angle of the camera?

RAZ: the loach is a bully, but she picks on the mollies & catfish mostly (if she starts on tetras i will be setting up my 30 litre again and move her out). I have never seen her bully a tetra yet *touches wood*
Sandy: he is very pale, i think that was the camera he does have the neon blue around the eyes still. The only other behaviour i have noticed is his fins move really fast and he is smaller than all the other tetra.

hows your water ? when i had neons some did loose colour but when i adjusted the water to a lower ph they regained colour, when neons loose colour its a sign of unhappyness. as said before he might be getting bullied

tested water day before yesterday:
PH 7 (Tried 2 different brands to be sure)
did water change few days ago too.
It is just the one neon with the colour loss.. he was always a bit pale.. it only got worst past week or so.

Just been to feed them & watch him for a bit and he is acting like a normal fish.. Swimming around & eating normally. Bar the colour loss he is normal. (Strangely thought the blue neon showed up a bit when I turned the lights off!!?! curious...)
Will just have to keep an eye on him, I have had the neon’s since start of august and they have all been fine.. The PH is stable always between 6.9 and 7.1
It could be nothing; maybe he is one of those fish like 1 in a 1000 that has pigment problems?? (Long shot I know, but always look on the bright side

)
See how he is tomorrow.
Thanks all for help
