I have a tropical tank with guppies .... could i get a krib to add to the tank? What temp do i keep the tank at? How much room do these guys need?
Are they agreesive? How big do they get? How many could i have?
Any other information will be great smile.gif
sandy
how big is your tank and how many fish you got and are they all guppies.

for one krib then id suggest a male and he can take a temperature of around 25c dont know what that is in farenheit. tank size for one would be 16 gallons but a pair go more by length than volume as they need a territory to guard. minimum length would be at least two foot, but if they do pair and get young then they are very bad fin nippers so your guppies wouldnt have much tail left. even 1 can cause problems, so even if you have lots of room they tend to chase smaller fish.
these fish are african cichlids and though they are suitable for a community tank they can get aggressive. they spend much of the time on the bottom half of the tank and like to have caves to hide in. when paired a couple of caves are needed to provide spawning sites.

It's a 15 gallon tank

you can deffinately get one and if its about two foot long then you can get a pair as long as you dont mind the fin nipping but id get the male first anyway until he matures or if your lucky you might find a big male to begin with. they grow to 3 inches maybe four at a push. if you get a female and an immature male then she could easily kill him.

OKay, so i could get one? Do they do well alone (like not paired up?)
Im going to be planting my tank very well.I have a terra cotta plant pot in my tropical tank is this a good "cave" for the guy?

And do females do well alone? are they less agressive?

I have 5 adult guppies, and 6 smaller ones "pre teens" i guess you could call them since there just about 3 cm long and you could start telling the diffrence between male and females and there getting color...
And now is there diffrent types of kribs??? and do the females and males look diffrent apart? And how much did yours cost you?

Thanks by the way, it's very nice of you smile.gif
sandy
you can get one bo as they do well on their own. i will see if i can get a pic of my two for you. you can put either sex in your tank as you have no plans for breeding. the female is more brightly coloured so you could try for one of those. the terracotta pot is fine as a cave and you may need some cover for the guppies to hide just in case.
as for one being more aggressive than the other id say they are about the same when kept singly.
you only get the standard krib. theres no other colour type.
kribs over here vary in price. i think i got my for about 3 pounds each which is about 6 dollars i think. now the pics, *goes to look*.

this one is the male

this is the female. these pics arent mine by the way.
Black oranda
smile.gif Oh wow there lovely!, i love the females.... ill try to get a krib ill look around for a female but if i can't find one ill look for a male.

Im going to be decorating my tank soon, it's a bare bottom tank since i took out my gravel and added it into the goldfish tank.
Im planing on getting sand and lots of plants. Ill let you know what happens by next week.

biggrin.gif thanks by the way!
Kev
WEll, sandys said it all, except for the albino strain of kribs, theres plenty of those kicking around and alot of them look quite nice !

good luck BO smile.gif
Black oranda
Is there any other types of fish i could add?? With the guppies and
krib? smile.gif
sandy
didnt know you could get an albino krib. never seen one kev, got any pics? i suppose i could google it but im too lazy lol.GIF

as for other fish bo you can add what you want as long as its not another cichlid and you dont max the space out.
try to get fast moving fish or maybe a gourami? that would look nice what do you think kev?
Black oranda
Oh ya a gourami sounds great i've always wanted one.... what do you guys think??

(A dwarf gourami ofcourse right???)
sandy
yeah i reckon a dwarf would look good bo. maybe wait to see if anyone agrees though.
Black oranda
Ya ill see what Kev says smile.gif Thanks again you two
Myaj
Dwarf gouramis are very pretty but I've never had good luck with them. They just don't seem very healthy and if you have more than one they tend to fight. You could very well try one though.

I don't know about the kribs. I have a pair in a 29 gallon tank with a south american puffer. The kribs rule the lower regions. I don't think I'd try them with gentle fish like guppies. They also breed like mad, but my puffer keeps that under control wink.gif. The female is actually a bit more agressive than the male, she is the one that makes advances on him, etc. They do hide a lot, they love rockwork and really only come out to eat or chase the puffer away from "their" area.

I can't seem to get a picture to post, or I'd show you my pair
Kev
yeah a dwarf gourami would be cool, honey gouramis, the blue ones, the flame ones, so many, the choice is yours really, presonnaly i would go for a pair of the dwarfs, (either 2 honeys or one blue one and one flame one) and a krib..... they arent aggressive untill they are paired...

Make sure you show us pics when its done !!!

Kev
Black oranda
OKay so ill get 2 gouramis and 1 krib and sand and lots of plants and another terra cotta plant pot and take pictures alright.... i should have everything done by next weekend smile.gif Im going out sunday to get stuff.
Myaj
Just keep an eye on the gouramis. It can be rare to find a female in a local store, and two males in my experience will not violently fight but will harrass and annoy each other to death. Lots of plant cover will help with that.

I doubt a single krib would be too territorial, but still keep an eye on it, and give it some caves or rockwork to make its "home" in ( that terra cotta pot). It will be more comfortable that way.
Myaj
Here's a pic of my krib pair, finally got it attached...
Black oranda
smile.gif Thanks... first ill just look for the krib the gouramis could wait alittle since i don't have much money to spend at the momment.
Ill make some "rocky" work.
