My Mom and sister are going up to the city on Saturday and since I can't go, gotta work, I wanted them to stop and get me a couple Apple Snails from a nice pet shop there. Since it is like and hour and a half drive up there and I don't know how long the snails would have to ride aroiund in the car during shopping and stuff, I was wondering what the best way to transport them would be? Should they be left in the bag, moved to another container or what? I want to be sure they make it home alive unsure.gif

i may be right... but someone else can correct me if i'm not

i think you wrap the snail up with a damp cloth, towel and place them in a container... not full of water... but make sure the container has holes in it so they can breathe (snails can live outta water for weeks so dry air is that bad... but the damp towel will moisten them up) i guess that is a choice you could use

any other ideaS?

I transported snails from Alberta to Ontario that way except I used newspapers. It took about three days and they were fine.

Ive mailed mine a thousand times in wet paper towels and tupperwares with holes.... they do very well!

Awsome, thanks for the help. I was thinking it would be safer for them in something other than the bag since they would slosh around, but wasn't sure what to do. Thanks for the suggestions, I now feel alot better about their ride home:)

My friend who used to breed them transported 7 to me in a glass jar. They were in there for quite a few hours and were great. Just put some water in the jar and put some air holes in the top.

The main reason to take them out of the bag and wrap them in damp paper towels is so they won't smash into each other when the bag moves around and damage their shells.

If your mom and sister are careful, they should be o.k. in the bag for a few hours. Or, you could have each snail put in its own bag! biggrin.gif That way Mom and sis won't have to unpack and wrap them!
