I have heard in many replies about in the breeding season the fish will get the bumps on their gills, but when is the breeding season? Anyone know? huh.gif

I believe that they breed in dramatic temperature changes so in Spring and Fall. Unless of course they are indoors, then the seasons could be artificail as you simply change the temperature of the tank a little with a heater or something.

Yes, both spring and fall are great breeding seasons. The major one however is definetely the spring. Fish react to the warming up of the water, as well as natural food available again (they reduce or stop eating during winter). Big and frequent spawns are in the spring, but you can get smaller ones in the fall as well.
Some breeders bring their fish in for the winter into warmer water, and about a month after the move they count their first swimming babies....smile.gif

kewl. I was just wondering because my friends here at school was setting up a 30 gal tropical tank and ended up buying 4 pregnant mollies at different stores. Neat. Thanks guys.
