I found this huge apple snail a week ago in a pet store for a laughing 4 bucks, and just had to get her. She is in with 5 of my other apple snails in a 20 gl tank - and so far hasn't gotten herself out of that shell!
There is food in the tank - zucchini and lettuce, as well as dried fruit treats made for snails - but I can't lure her out of her shell. Is that normal for a big snail like that, does she need more time?

Ah heck Andrea,we need pics!!! Up until now, we've been trying to figure out who had the biggest snail... Is it eather.hey with Chewey,or Errrika and her Naughty? So really Andrea, just how big is your monster snail?????Hmmm.... As for coming out of it's shell ,I remember thinking the one I had must have been dead because it was well over a week. I kept getting it out of the aquarium and smelling it!!! LOL It did finally venture out though!

Oh, I did the "smell test", and no stink so far...
I'll take a picture as soon as I actually remember to charge those darn batteries!....

can't wait too see him/her.. yaaa snails are generally shy when they first arrive.. don't worry he won't starve himself to death, he prob takes midnight strolls and grabs a bite too eat when you cant see him

It seems that Chewy likes to hide right after laying eggs or after having a long, lets just say "mating session." I don't know if that's normal, but that's what she does. It can go on for days at a time. Maybe your new snail is full of sperm and ready to lay some eggs!

We should have a "biggest snail" contest! I think Naughty takes the cake though.

Well, the huge snail died yesterday. I wouldn't have noticed right away, but there was this terrible smell coming from the snail tank, so I knew right away who caused that smell! I kept the shell though and took a few pictures, just to see what kind of snail it was....
Batteries charging right now, so pics have to wait until tomorrow....

Oh Andrea.....That was too sad. I was hoping that the poor guy was allright. Wonder what happened?
