Well I made some gel food from scratch today...put some freeze dried bloodworms, sundried baby shrimp, peas (used babyfood peas), a jar of mixed carrots peas and greenbeans, and some frozen spinach as well as some of the flake food I had here. Used two cups of water and 4 packages of knox gelatin and chilled for 3 hours.
So anyway after making this concoction, I fed it to my sweeties this evening... and not having had them but three days the poor babies didn't even know that the little squares were meant to be food.... I had to reach back down into the tank and sorta sqwish some of it up, for them to get the idea... hopefully they will catch on pretty soon and eat like crazy.... I left the food in a bit longer so they had plenty of time to find all that they wanted....
Anyone else ever noticed that it takes them a bit to get used to the idea of the gel food... any suggesstions on helping them to better locate it everytime??? Once they figured out it was food they were little piggy pigs.... more so than for just the flakes... so apparently they approve of my cooking menu..lol...

I have noticed that when you change a food they will look at it like "and I'm supposed to eat this"

.....but don't worry they will get the hang of it..

Congrats on your new food Hun, it gets fun from this time out

See, mine do it the other way around - they swim like crazy towards the food, gobble it up, and later it dawns on them - "Ooops, that tastes different than the one from yesterday! Oh well, where is more?"

ok quick update on the gelfood.... they understood that it was indeed food today when I fed them.... and they went toooo town!!! I guess they had just never seen sinking food before. would stand to reason them being soo small and I've only had them since Saturday....they lived a crowded shletered life before entering my tank... they seem sooo happy now.... my husbnad has even commented on how well they seem to like thier new living quarters....

Excellent!

consider using salmon, sardines or whitefish next time to add more essential fatty acids.
So is your tank cycled?

Is tuna fish acceptable too?
What about the lil bones that sardines have? I was a lil worried about that when I made my gel food.

If you use tuna, add some linseed oil for the essential fatty acids. i'd go with low salt tuna.
