I am just about to goto the fish store and i am going to buy a plant for my tank. Is it worth it? what do they to help? I heard something about amonia is foos to the plant isnt it?

I like plants because they look nice but they also help keep the NitrAte levels under control.
Don't know if they do anything for the Ammonia though, that's eaten by the bacteria in the tank & kept low with water changes as far as I know.

Hey,
Before you put the plant in your tank, make sure that you disinfect it first. I have heard that you can unknowingly add some "nasty" stuff--ick, snails that carry diseases.
I rinsed the plants with a bleach solution--9 parts water to 1 part bleach and then really rinsed them with regular water till I couldn't smell the bleach anymore.

I love the live plants and there are many good reasons for them.

Aquatic plants absorb nitrogen in the ammonium form (ionized ammonia)... they do not uptake nitrate like land plants
