Vets

I have read that many of you take your fish to the vet. What kind of vet do you go to?? Just a regular small animal vet, or are there special ones for fish?

The only vet I have is an equine. I am sure if I show him my fish he'll look at me a little funny

I was successful in locating a fish vet on referral through my regular canine vet.

A few months back, desperate to isolate a bacterial infection in my goldie tank I contacted my regular canine vet, who referred me to an exotic animal vet. That vet was not local for me but I did call him. He then kindly referred me back to a vet here in my town, actually just a few miles away, who was professionally, another canine vet but he personally raised gold fish as a hobby. He turned out to be fantastic, really knew his stuff. He even came to my house to examine my fish and my set up.

You just need to find a vet who is willing to work with you and your fish. Not all vets, that are willing to work with you, will specialize in fish, they may just have an intrest.

Or they could be like the guy who helps me out with the meds for my fish - He just wants to do all he can to help out, even though he doesn't know much about them. So basically what happens is I figure out what is wrong with the fish, and he helps me get my hands on what drugs I think I need to fix the problem.
