Hamsta,Hamsta,I allready wrote you a book!!!!! What do you want out of me ,blood???? Anyway, the first thing that I did forget to tell you is that when you do finally get some Hermies, is to add them to their tank and basically leave them alone for a week or so ,just so that they can "destress",acclimate themselves to the new tank etc. As js stated in a previous post, all Hermit Crabs are caught from the wild. By the time that they make it to the pet stores, they're not in the best of conditions at all. They're totally stressed out so the less you bother them, the easier time they'll have to adjust. When you go to purchase them, you want to look for crabs that are active. Sometimes though when you look, you see noone moving around. Look around see the ones they have, and if they're not moving around, ask to hold the ones you're interested in.Open your hand flat, and place them on your palm. A healthy crab should want to poke his head out almost right away just to see whats going on. As for size, they range from crabs the size of a dime to crabs as big as or bigger than your fist..I would advise you to pick smaller crabs, and crabs that are similar in size. It's alot easier, and more afordable to buy the smaller shells that you will need for them. I have different sized crabs, and they all seem to get along fine, but occasionally you'll get a bigger crab that bullies the littler ones. This isn't always the case, but better safe than sorry.

Once you have let your crabs go thru the adjusment period, they may do one of two things..sometimes when they're stressed, they'll dig down and bury-could be for an hour---could be for a month!!!!

It's important to let them be until they come back up-no matter how long it takes.(Unless you open the lid,and it smells like something died) or two, they could just start hanging out, investigating eating ,drinking etc. I also want you to know that Hermies are more nocturnal....They like to come out at night..I have alot that come out at any time, but most wait until night. That's just their time.. I told you earlier that alot of people your age buy them and then decide that they're boring-that they don't do much of anything,so please remember that before you decide to buy them,ok? And because they are nocturnal, you may want to change their food every night ,that way they'll have fresh food every evening.Once your tank gets that humidty in check-make sure you change the food every day-whether there is food left or not because it will mold up...Fresh food daily....A must (Water too) ok enough all ready....I will give it all some more thought...Join and start reading those forums!!!!!You will have a ton of info from them.
