ill.gif I have just discovered, what looks like, the start of ick in my goldfish tank. I have removed the zebra danio that seems to be infected and one other little fish. So far it does not look like my goldfish have the ick but I am medicating my big tank (36 gallons) anyway. I have removed the carbon filters (I have 2 Penguin 170 filters). Am I suppose to also remove the biowheels? Will the medication effect the good bacteria in the biowheels? I am treating both tanks with Primafix and Super Ick. Any other suggestions as to the best medication for Ick. I lost my 10gallon tank this summer to ick, fin rot and septicemia and I don't want to lose this new tank too.

I would relocate the biowheel for the duration of the treatment, yes. Most medications will effect the beneficial bacteria more or less, and the biowheel is full of those. A bucket of water with an airstone will do just fine.
As for Ich treatment, I would continue the treatment at least 6 days after all the Ich spots are gone. Only in the free floating stage is the Ich attackable with meds, in the egg phase medication doesn't do anything. Thats why its important to add some extra days to the treatment, just to make sure you get the freshly hatched buggers as well.
Other than that - tank lights off...that all I can remember at this point...smile.gif

Thanks for the help. I am still pretty "green around the gills" when it comes to my aquariums.
