Hi all. This is my first post. I have a 20 gallon tank with 3 beautiful goldfish; a black telescope eye, a ryukin, and an orange oranda. I am going on vacation for 4 days and was curious if there are vacation feeders availble for goldfish, do I use the standard vacation feeders, or should I just not bother and just feed them when I get back?
Any suggestions?
Thanks, JJ

I would just feed them when you get back. Vacation feeders can cause problems with water quality. Your fish should be able to fast that long without a problem, as long as they are healthy to begin with.
I know how my fish are, they would take care of that "vacation" feeder in day one anyhow, they would figure out how to eat the whole thing at once and be hungry for the next three days regardless!

My suggestion is turn off the heat or up the water cooler (if you have them) so that the temp will become less then 60-58ish that way you can slow down the metabolism, and another idea is get a few LARGE apple snails and put in a balance diet of raw-hard vegies they may produce "pre-digested waste" which some fish food manufacturers use in their fish food, but the apple snail method can't substitute REAL fish food as they dont have much protein or vitamin B.

It won't harm your fish at all to go without food for 4 days. I wouldn't mess with the temperature, temperature fluctuations will stress the fish.

Buy an automatic feeder. You can get a good one for around 10 to 20 $. I suggest the one made by pennplax. I have one and works as simple as a clock.
