I had a problem with one of my boys, he liked to hang out by his filter intake. I used a stocking to cover it, but it's becoming a pain. After only about 3 days, it becomes pretty cloged. I'm wondering about other options?
I'm planning on going to the fs tomorrow anyway. So I'll see if I can find something that may work better. Just figuered I'd ask you guys first, see what we can come up with? B)
Thanks, Erin

maybe the sponge from a sponge filter??? wouldn't that help

or some spone from aqua clear media might do the trick.. and might not get as gunky ( as its more porous and bigger holes in it)

Thanks, Hamsta
I picked up a filter media bag. It's more porous than a stocking and it has a draw string on top so I can tighten it around the intake tube. I hope this works!
I remember reading that someone used a heater cover and that worked well. But I didn't see anything like that at Petsmart. As a matter of fact, I didn't see any heaters that had a cover with them! And if they did, the heaters were too big for the size tanks I have anyway.
Well, here's hoping this is better. *crossing fingers* B)

haha.. good luck!!!!

Well, it's not working! mad1.gif
First off, it's huge (I got the smallest one they had), second, it doesn't cut the current enough. It never looked like it was problem to him before, but now the current from the filter seems too strong because the media bag has bigger holes in it than the stocking. I think he got used to the current being less with the stocking over the intake. Pansy, now I've spoiled him! Just kidding. He doesn't seem to be having a terrible time with it, but I'm still going tomorrow and getting a Whisper mini. Or Micro, whatever. It's a Whisper filter I have on there now I think. What ever comes with the mini bow kits. I don't have the paperwork on it anymore, so I don't know if you can adjust the flow or how to do it, so I'll pick up a smaller filter for him.

OOOO. Maybe I can get the ok from hubby to spend the extra $30 to get a 2.5 minibow for one of my new boys! hehehmn.gif Naughty.gif

lets hope!!!

did you try taking a slice of the sponge and stuffing it in the intake valve???? that might slow it down...
abby'smom
No, I didn't try that yet. You're talking about a sponge for a sponge filter, right?
hamstaman
yes.. or a sponeg you can buy from stores ( one never touched by soap)... i once stuffed my intake with it... same water flow out of top.. but not strong pull of water was present lol

I have found that using a Tronic heater guard over the filter intake has worked very well. They are very inexpensive, and you can easily attach it to the tank using a small suction cup. If you look at the "Tip of the Month" section on this forum, you will see my arrangement featured as one of the tips.

Here is the URL for the Tip of the Month page that features the Tronic heater guard.

YAY!! I figured out how to add a quote! purpban.gif (ahhem, sorry, alittle computer illiterate)

Anyway, I remembered reading about that, so I was going to look for a heater cover. But I didn't see any.

I did get a Whisper internal filter 2-10. I'm happy with it so far. Doesn't look like it's causing as much current or pull on the water as the HOB did. Funny though, they're the same size filter. So I didn't disturb the cycle I just switched out the cartridge, since they take the same one. So far, so good. Though it's only been a couple hours!
