I moved my betta from the 2.5 gallon to the 10 gallon tank. I turned on the mini filter, put some of the old water in it. I put some food in there, but it just spits it out, will the betta be like this because its all new? Also the food it spit out went into the gravel and is stuck in the gravel, which can cause an increase in ammonia. I do not know what to do about the increase of food in the gravel, because when it is removed it breaks apart. Will the betta like its new home or will it like the 2.5 gallon better?

Thank you

Give him some time to settle in. In the mean time, you can suck out the uneaten food with a turkey baster. Anything you miss can be taken care of with the siphon when you change the water. Good luck with the new home! Hope he grows to love the extra space! Erin

I don't think it's a good idea to feed fish right after a move, which is one of the reason I think it's best to feed before, and before adding a new member to a tank. Eating with a new environment can just be too stressful...I personally don't eat too well when under stress either biggrin.gif

smile.gif Let the guy settle in, like the above posters have said.
It could take up to a week until his back to normal but it usualy takes about 3 days or so.Don't worry he should do great.
Feed some blood worms time to time they love them and it's great for there diets.

All my betta's have lived in 10 gallon filtered tanks and they have loved it. My current betta seems to enjoy it very much.

If your fish is acting odd, it is probably because everything is still new. For the excess food, just be sure to vacuum the gravel every week when you do a water change. That will get rid of the extra food so the ammonia will not be affected. Good luck! B)
