i have a combination of of blood and tub worms along with brine shrimp... i was wondering if it is okay to feed them those monday-thursday, spirulina(sorry for my bad spelling) fridays, a fast on saturday then a peas-soybean gellatin mix on sunday...
is this a stable diet?

Btw i bought a new black moor still... i need a bigger tank, but i cant resist it seemed like a veil-teil moore newfish.gif

That would be a very high protein diet.
It'd be ok if you did 1 part protein and 3 parts veggies (peas, green beans, lima beans, zuchini, etc) at each feeding.

I agree with DataGuru, rather high in protien... more veggies tongue.gif

are there bad side effects of too much protein?

it results in more ammonia in the tank which translates into more nitrAtes.

If you're supplimenting their diet with the high protein foods, it shouldn't be a problem, other than making it harder to keep the water happy (e.g. nitrAte < 40ppm). If it's their total diet, I'd be worried about nutrient deficiences as meats usually don't contain all the vitamins, minerals, etc needed in the diet Goldies are ominvores, so they need veggies too. Mine are always looking for food. They keep the green hair algae nibbled down and love the duckweed I put in for them daily.

I remember reading a recommendation from Steven Myers that young growing goldies should have between 40 and 60% of their diet in protein. He's since brought that recommendataion down to 40-45%. There are some links to his pages and other fish nutrition sites on the bottom of my home page.

I agree with the above. I would like to add though, a diet in high protein can lead to constipation easier.
I would do a more balenced diet it would be best for them.
