Ok here is my dilema .
I have a 30 gallon tank water pharms very good . I 2in fancy 1 1inch ryunkin 1 1inch oranda .
I have a 10 gallon 1 1 inch oranda and 1 1inch panda they have been together for about 2 weeks now my water parms are out of control
ammonia 0.25
Nitrite 0.2
Last night I did a 50% water change as they were bad . tonght with those readings I did a 35% water change . I havent added anything at all .
I feed a pinch of flake food in the Pm and sometimes they get an alge waffer they havent gotten any oranges or fruit in a couple of days. The tank has been running for a month it was cycled with substrate from a cycled tank. It has been doing real well on water parms
Now take in mind there are two fish in a 10 gallon . I dont have bigger without adding one more to my 30 gallon already having 3 in it .
I just dont know what to do if this could be because there is two in the 10 gallon with more waste. can I and should I put one in my 30 gallon so I can get the 10 under control.
I do water changes with gravel vacc every week and may do a little water change in between like 15% or so. Any suggestions

They don't sound like particularly large fish in the 10 gal - was there one fish in it to start and then you added the other??

(What I'm getting at is maybe you're having a mini-cycle due to the increase bioload). Also - Even though I used stuff from my other cycled tank - I still had a mini cycle in the new one - not nearly as bad or as long as a regular cycle but it still did cycle a bit.

If it is a mini cycle - then ammonia at .25 isn't all that bad it should go down to zero as the cycle progresses. Nitrite of .2 isn't bad either IMHO for a cycling tank.

It sounds like you are keeping the tanks really clean!!

Does this sound like it might be what's going on???

Thanks Jenn.
Ya my Panda was added to the tank about a week ago and the oranda has been in there for awhile . I had put the panda in because he didnt seem to be getting enough to eat with the other fish in the 30 gallon . so I thought he would do better with Pudgy and hes doing well except for the water . I did add some salt last Night and am getting ready to do a small water change as I still have Nitrites at 0.2. Ill keep plugging away at it and maybe this is a mini cycle sounds like it is . Ill keep an eye on it carefully .
planning on getting a bigger tank just no funds right now sad.gif so im watching this one very close . Thanks for the Help

What kind of filters are on this tank?
shawneesgoldie
Koko
I have 1 aqua tech 5-15 on it and a Bubble stone.

Well that filter should be fine for that tank Hun. The only thing I can suggest it to do small water changes every other day and keep testing on the next other day, until you get the ammonia down.

I think it just might be alittle adjustment your tank is going threw Hun biggrin.gif
