I want to move my betta from my tank to the new tank? I am going to add water and turn on the filter, how long do I have to wait to put my betta in?

You may want to cycle it first, hun. Ammonia can wreak havock on a betta. So if you can wait a bit a fishless cycle would be best.
Good luck, Erin

Should I add an anti chlroine substance in the tank, or should I just keep the tank with water and wait?

I always do. I use Stress coat, there are others out there that are better for bettas, but this is what I have on hand so I'll use it up. For instance there is one that binds ammonia so it's not as toxic.
To get your cycle started you could use the filter from your existing tank, it should already have all the good bugs in it. Or use something like Nitromax or I have Stress zyme. It adds more bugs to help jumpstart the cycle. If you are going to do a fishless cycle, you'll still have to "feed" the tank. The food is going to be your source of ammonia for now. And the good bugs will feed on the ammonia and turn it into nitrites. Then a second set of bugs will feed on the nitrite and turn it to nitrate, the end product. These are still toxic to your fish, so when you do water changes this, along with the poo, is what you are removing to make the levels lower and more tolerable. Do you have test kits? If not you'll need one for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. Ph is good to have also. After the ammonia peeks and starts to drop again, nitrites will start showing up. After they peek and drop off, your tank has cycled! There is a guide to a fishless cycle I think in the goldie section of the board if you need more info. And if you already knew all this, I'm sorry to put you through it again!
I hope I helped a little!

P.S. It's late and I'm exhaused, please correct me if I've mispoken! heartpump.gif

biggrin.gif Erin that was pretty good info there----I'm impressed!!! lol I'm going to play devil's advocate here, and say that I never cycle the betta tanks before I put them in,and I've yet to have problems because of it.I think it really helps that betta's are Labryinth Fish...Hamsta,what Erin said though is the basics, and what-ever you choose to do ,it is important to keep track of the water params, and water changes.I may not cycle it,but I do keep on that part, and change out water when need be. wink.gif

Hey, thanks Sharon! See, I pay attention, I'm just a bit thick at times! bubbles.gif
Hamsta, I didn't cycle my betta tanks first either. But I used the Stress zyme I mentioned and I deffinately think it helped speed it up. I suggested that you cycle it first because of the ammonia. It was during cycling that my betta's fins were the worst, and I'm still trying to totaly rid them of the finrot and get their fins healed.
And like Sharon said, whatever you decide, keep an eye on parameters, and your boy should be fine B) . Good luck!

Water swapping can help adjust them.
