my dad just brought me a garfield the cat fish bowl today (oh boy like i need another fishtank rolleyes.gif ) but of course i ran right over to petsmart to buy stuff to set it up, and ended up getting 2 female bettas, a white and red one. they get along for the most part, but they keep flaring at each other now and then.. is that alright? the white one made an intimidating face and swam up right next to the red ones face like it was going to ram into it, but then it just swam the other way Lol rolleyes.gif do female bettas usually have the occasional quarrels? they were in the same tank at petsmart, and no one was picking on anyone else, but then again they were in a 10 gal. tank and i have no clue how big this bowl is. anyone know? heres a few pics, sry for the horrible quality, my digital cam. broke so im stuck with the webcam for now:

Very cute! I love Garfield. From the pic, I think it looks like a 1 gal, which might be why they are being naughty. I don't have females and know little about them, but 1 gallon sounds like tight quarters for 2 of them. Hopefully someone else who keeps some girls can tell you better!

biggrin.gif Hi Ermi! Erin's right about the tight space.Normally ,when you do keep females together, experts advise you to keep between 3 and 5 of them together. They also need a big enough tank that allows each betta their own space. Although the Garfield Bowl is really cute, you may just want to keep one betta in it. Space wise ,it doesn't look quite big enough for two even if they did get along. rolleyes.gif Is it possible that Dad loves you enough to buy a matching Garfield to go with your other one?

Aw, that tank is cute. I have a question though, How can they breathe? Bettas arent like goldfish where they breath in the water...they breathe at the surface. I'd agree with the others about the size, and with Devs about the the gals between the girls. Is it possible to get pics of the girls with the Web Cam?? I'd sure like to see 'em.. heartpump.gif heartpump.gif They sound Adorable.

thank you smile.gif

although the 2 have been fighting alottt the past 2 days, and im a little worried. theyre always chasing each other around flaring and fighting and the white betta looks a bit stressed and im getting concerned. would they kill each other if i left them in there together like male bettas would? i dont really have a place for them to be seperated, except my tropical tank with 2 angelfish, 2 tetras, and a molly, or maybe the quarantine tank huh.gif

Hey, those are some nice girls you have!
Well like I had said, I don't know much about the females. But if I were you, I would probably give the tropical tank a try for one of them. From what I understand, they can be kept peacefully in a comunity tank with other species. Of course I could be wrong on that. But if they are looking stressed, that could lead to other problems, and you don't want them hurting each other either. IMHO, It couldn't hurt to try. Keep an eye on them for a while and if they seem to be behaving in the trop. tank, then great! If not, you have the Q tank as back up, right.? Just a suggestion...
Good luck! Erin
