can u have a 10 gallon tank and put a filter for a 5 gallon tank on it?? cuz all the filter does in a betta tank is store the bacteria and may pick up a few things here and there... but betta poop sinks.. so the filter cant do anything about that.. so does it matter what sized filter u get for the 10 gallon??? becuz im planning on getting a filter for a 5 gallon for my 10 g just so there isnt alot of watre current and its just a place for colonizing bacteria..
any opinions welcome..
thanks

you should be able to because Bettas don't make very much waste so it should be ok

You didn't mention what brand or type of filter you are planning on getting, but I use AquaClear Mini's on all of my 10 gallon betta tanks (also on the five gallons). I drape a piece of filter floss (I use 100% polyester quilt batting) under the outflow to reduce the current.

im getting this filter,,, provides all 3 types of filtration and will allow bugs to grow in it.. which is all i pretty much need... with my weekly water changes correct?

I don;t know if it matters but this filter is suitable for tanks up to 3 gals. I'm not sure if it would move enough water in a 10 gal.
Hmmm - hopefully someone with more experience will come along! If not post this ques in the tanks section!

do i need it to move the water??.. i know it ripples the water surface.. so isn't that enough so the water doesnt go stagnant???

IMO, I think that filter is too small. I have seen it at the Big Al's store and it just really tiny and I don't think the sponge is large enough to hold enough of the good bio bugs to really do any good. Personally, I would spend the extra few dollars and get an AquaClear mini

I am also not sure if that filter is big enough. I really like aquaclears so I would suggest getting one of those. They are relatively cheap and very easy to clean. You can just get an aquaclear mini and that would be great for a 10 gallon tank.
