I have a 10 gallon tank. My ammonia had been out of control and I finally got it down to .25 with Amquel. However, at the same time my Nitrates and Nitrites then went sky high???? Any ideas why and what to do?
Nitrates 160
Nitrites 10
Ph 6.2
Alka. 80
Water
Soft 75
My water is very clear. I'm nearing the end of treatment for Anchorworms with Dimilin, so haven't had my filter media in or done water changes per the instructions on the bottle. I'm on the 3rd week of the 4 week treatment where you're not supposed to do water changes. Should I do one anyway?
Thanks.

I would... enough to get nitrIte under 1ppm.
Also, your pH is getting very low.
Do you know your KH?
Amquel eats up your buffering capacity and can result in a pH crash.
Can you add salt with Dimilin?
If you can, I would cuz it helps prevent nitrIte poisoning. 1t per gallon.

duh... it was right there in your post. I wouldn't let KH get much below 80.
So did you manage to get nitrItes down?
and di your water change get KH up a little?

Also watch your NitrAte readings - high nitrAte readingd can be toxic for your fish as well!
