i have a 10 g with a male betta.. i need a filter..

now would a UGF be good? if i get a small valve or pinch the tubes so it does create any turbulant water

would anyone suggest anything else for filtration purposes????

For my bettas I love my whisper filter. I wouldn't use them with goldies - but they can be set to create very little current & they seem to work well in my betta tanks.

I had an ugf in one tank & the betta hated the current.

Hope this helps!

UGF can get pretty messy, especially if your not keen on water changes, as it can get pretty aneorobic under there.

Any HOB filter can work in a 10 gallon tanks. I have a various of filters, and they all work fine.

With the longer tailed boys, who has issues swimming against the intake or out take of the tube you can do the following:

1. Take a piece of clean, never seen soap, new piece of panty hose, and cover the intake tube.

2. Cut a piece of a plastic canvas and attach it to the outflow current to break up the flow.

In no time, the betta should be able to learn to swim with this minimal flow.

My boys learn not only to swim with a HOB filter under these conditions, but can be caught playing in the intake and outtake as well.
