Jenn you read my mind. I was just thinking about this, this morning. Hopefully you'll get some good imput.

I was always told that it wasn't a good idea to put a heater on anything smaller then a 5 gallon... try putting the tank in a small and well heater room....
fisharenewtome
Well that will work once the house heat is on - but for now it gets cold upstairs - esp at night - I've got the light on the tank on to try to keep it warmer but how long can I leave it on if I can't get a different heater in there???

A neptune 25W heater works fine in a 2 1/2 gallon tank. Make sure to have a thermometer to safely monitor the water.

I don't take the risk with small tanks and heaters.... like i said above. smile.gif your betta will do fine my betta has been in rather cold places and does great.Betas are very hardy fish in the first place smile.gif im sure he will be OK until th house warms up or you get a small heater or something...

i would go with the light b/c it is just to risky in a tank that small the water temp. can change so fast...

Sorry Jenn I know this is your thread, but I have a question.

What if the room you keep them in is around 65 degrees, or even lower? What do you do if you don't have a heater?

It gets very cold in my house, I like it that way. But the fish don't so what shall I do?

There is one called a junior heater, can't remember the brand though. I've seen it mentioned in other threads here. They say it's made for 2.5- 5 gal tanks. I've been thinking of this too, I need to get a few for all my boys. Take a look in nnnnnn, I think that's where they said you'd find it. (By "they" I mean the people talking about it in the thread)
If I knew how to insert a quote, I'd look for the threads I'm talking about, but I don't, I've tried! Alittle computer illiterate here, lucky I can type! heh.gif Next time I go to nnnnnn I'll se if I can find one and let you know, if you haven't already got one.

My LFS sells small heat pads...they are made of hard rubber. Anyone every tried putting the tank on a warm pad rather than putting a heater in a small tank?

biggrin.gif Erin's right . They have a small heater at nnnnnn that I use on all my betta tanks-ranging from 2.5 gals.-5 gals. It keeps the tank around 78-80..I paid 6.97 a piece for them... Betta's may be "hardy" BO, but they just "plain and simple" don't like being cold. Anyone that's taken their betta and changed from non heated -to heated can,or will probably tell you the dramatic change in their fish. My betta's in unheated tanks basically didn't do much of anything. When I added the heater's,the transformation was amazing! Not only did their color enhance, they became alot more active, and alot more healthier. My betta's swim around their tanks just like "regular fish" do. The only thing I will add,is that using a light and a heater can add the temp up some more. My water has gone to 82 with both on-but they've done fine. I do unplug the heater's on the 2.5 gal. in the summertime. Your house temps tend to fluctuate too much in the winter ,and I don't think that's a "good thing". I have kept upto 16 bettas, and I will say that I am no expert. This is just my experience-along with my own opinion. rolleyes.gif

That sounds like exactly what I need - are they OK for acrylic tanks???

DO you have any idea what the heater is called or the wattage???

Thanks!!!

rolleyes.gif Jenn,it may be called The Junior heater.I don't pay attention-I know.. blink.gif .It's fine in Acrylic tanks-that's what most of mine are anyway. You'll see all their submersible heaters, and then you'll see this one in a short stubby box-heater's around 4-5 inches big.

Thanks Sharon!

my ten gallon has no heater in it... and its 26 degrees celcius!! and its fall here lol

the room is around 22 degrees celcius.. so why is my tank so hot? i dont even need to use a heater yayy lol
eather.hey
Ham, is there a light on it? My eclipse tank gets really overly hot b/c of the light. I need to get a lighter wattage bulb for it.
