i wanted to buy some school fish to go in my new tank with my goldfish and i'm not sure which type will get along with each other.

any suggestions are appreciated or if its a bad idea i'd like to know smile.gif

thanks
Athena
Guppies are too small to put in with goldfish. Unfortunately the goldfish might eat them because they're so small. A lot of people on this board would not put tropicals in with goldfish as tropicals require a higher temperature. I've found that giant danios are a great type of schooling fish but I'm not sure if I'd put them in with goldfish because they like warmer temperatures too!

hi chelseaPOA
how big are your goldfish and the size of tank. are they fancy goldfish or commoms?
i wouldnt put any other fish with commons, but if you have small fancies then white cloud mountain minnows would do well as they like the cooler water and they eat goldfish food.

Goldfish are usually best with same species.

Simple question.... and the Answer is NO.Guppies don't mix with Godlfish the temp is diffrent, the Diet is aswell,And how "Perky" guppies are im sure they would really stress the goldfish out and also they are very nippy fish wink.gif

As Sandy mentioned, white cloud mountain minnows are a nice schooling fish that go well with fancy goldfish. I have had a school with my larger goldfish for a couple of years now, and the goldfish completely ignore the white clouds.

I know that some goldfish enthusiasts are purists, and don't like to put other fish with their goldies, but for those that like another type of fish in the tank, white clouds are a good choice biggrin.gif
