are plastic plants really that bad for bettas?... i have a plastic plant with my betta and theres been no problem(no fin tearing).. maybe cuz it has rounded leaves???

in your opinion would you say plastic plants are ok as long as they are not jagged or pointy (made to immitate the characteristics of java ferns or some type of ancharis)

thanks..

ramy

(reason im asking is cuz.. im drifting from getting real plants (too much work:S) and just going to go with the most natural look i can get with plastic plants..(which have no care:)loool

To test if plastic plants are safe for Bettas you take a pair of Nylons and run the leaves acrossed them and if they snag or tear they arent safe.

Personally, I stay away from plastic plants and only use silk plants. They are more life-like as well. Bettas like to rest rest.gif on something soft at times so a plastic plant may not be to his liking. If you get a silk plant, they often still have plastic "buds" on them that are pointy or in some way dangerous. I cut the top of the points and make sure everything is smooth.

If plastic plants have any sharp areas, they definitely will pose a hazard to bettas. Bettas like to explore and swim around new objects, and it's possible that they will get some deep scratches or even tear their fins.

I have a few plastic plants in my betta tank. One has big silk leaves on it, and the flower is plastic. It has no pointy edges, so ive never been worried about it. It has been in there for along time now, and ive had NO problems. I would do the nylon test, and if it doesnt snag or tear, im sure they will be fine.

Good Luck!
