Ugh, my fish are such fusspots!

Two nights ago my calico ryukin was looking distinctly floaty, and as they have been rather overfed on flakes recently, I decided a day's fast, followed by peas would be a good idea.

Trouble was, I had no peas, nor any chance of getting any, so I decided to use carrots, as I was cooking up stew anyway. I fed them a bit before I fasted them, just to make sure they would eat it, and it didn't make it as far as the floor- they were like hoovers

They were fasted all yesterday (major sulks ) so this morning I dropped some cooked and chopped carrot in. The little horrors ignored it for ages, to the extent that i was going to fish it back out again, but I've just checked the tank and it's all gone. I suppose i must have chopped it too big, and little ones like fugly couldn't eat it until the big commons had chewed it up a bit.

I haven't seen carrots mentioned on here- are you meant to feed them to Goldfish? I thought that the fibre would do them good, and I also wondered whether the betacarotene would help bring out their colours; is this right?

i think my fish will eat anything but carrots but my pleco loves them.

I use frozen carrots and peas as the vegetable base for the gel food I am now making and feeding. The fish seem to like the stuff. Since all the ingredients go through the food processor, nothing identifiable as "carrot" is seen.

Yes, carrots are good for goldies, and they are a color enhancer as well with their carotene content.

i put carrots in all my tanks, mostly for snails, but all the fish nip on them too! it's great really, they love carrots much more than i do!

I use canned carrots in my Gel mix since they are alot softer so it'll be easier for goldies to chew and also they have a higher beta carotene concentration.

can i just give raw chopped peices of carrot to my goldies

pot or micro wave oven
but the micr-oven would be faster

I have never been able to get my gf to eat carrots. <_<
