Although you guys seem to adore, if not worship this woman..I must question a few of her practices. Why does she keep insisting on getting donations?

Why does she keep insisting on medicating as a "preventive?" It's like giving me antibodies constantly to ward off illnesses I might catch.

Aqurisol contains COPPER and is actually poisonous.

Salt? I would hate to test the salinity of some of your tanks...It seems as though it's a miracle drug, but I have yet to find research that supports any help that includes a betta.

All the illnesses that fishkeepers ward off is always present in the water. So if you keep your water as warm, and pristine as possible, free of ammonia, and nitrite, then chances are, your fishes will be disease free.

I would not personally add ANYTHING to my tanks unless I know for a fact why its there, and what exactly is in it. And I don't trust even lables or some woman who speaks in sarcastic riddles that thinks medicating healthy fishes with poison when it comes to the lives of my finned babies.

ok, well, for one she has kepts bettas for years and has had plenty of room for trial and error to experiment what works and what doesnt and weighing out the pros and cons. i believe it is better to prevent something happening than to cure it, it may be too late by that time. salt also kills nasty things in the water that you cant see or usually get rid of by just keeping it pristine. it also has a positive effect on their breathing and reduces nitrites. the lady keeps insisting on dontaions as it is probably expensive to keep the site up and needs help from generous people. but personally i havent seen any 'begs' as it were. just a donation button like koko has.

rolleyes.gif I take everything I read or hear,"with a grain of salt"(no pun intended). I personally have gone by my own experiences.I have tried Melafix on my betta's.I have read alot of places that this is a good thing. In my experience,Melafix has made my betta's worse off.I think the true factor of keeping a healthy betta,is also about consistent water temps-using a heater and a filter. I firmly believe that the less meds that you use-the better off you are. I had one betta that had a terrible case of ick. I tried using a number of Ick meds to cure the poor guy,and although the ick was going away, for all the meds I used it wasn't quick enough-and then he started to get fin rot. He actually looked like he was going to die-he was that bad.I took a desperate step, and salt-dipped him. He made an over night miraculous recovery.Unbelievable....really. Today,Morpheous is in perfect health.. But....Would I advise anyone to use salt on their betta's? No.....That situation could have definately gone from bad to worse. I tried it because I knew the fish was ready to die... I got really lucky. I use salt for my goldies, but only once on my betta's.It's not something that I would do unless I thought it was a "do or die situation"..... As for the "donate button" ,I don't have a problem with it at all.Koko spends alot of money on this site, and I firmly believe in it.I have chosen to donate a pittance-because that's all I have. I would be devastated if she had to kill the site off because she didn't have the money to keep taking it out of her own pocket. You can't knock people who try to seek out help for the care of their fish. everyone has their own experiences, and beliefs. They are just trying to do the right thing. What you can do ,is voice your opinion-why you agree or disagree, and change the tone of voice....I remember talking about that in another thread a long time ago... rolleyes.gif Anyone else remember???? Anyway,I could go on and on but....... This of course,is just my own personal experiences, and opinions.
