When I was cleaning, My betta did not go into the cup, he was scared. Will this cause stress?

??? What do you exacly mean being in the cup while cleaning the
tank or being in the aquarium while cleaning the tank...?
If the tank is big enough like 5 gallons about it would be alright for water changes and cleaning gravel...
